…WAS THE ADVICE THAT BROCK’S GRANDFATHER, James n. sherrill, AIA or “GRANDPA JIM” GAVE WHEN BROCK Decided at a young age to become an architect. First Inspired by his grandfather’s art and architecture, Brock started on a life long passion for art and architecture.
Brock took to a love of drawing, painting and making art from a young age. He would develop his passion and skill for creating throughout his childhood and early years eventually interning With a STAINED GLASS STUDIO IN ATLANTA WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL and completing his AP art portfolio in stained glass. he spent countless hours discussing art and architecture with his grandfather and reading every book on art and architecture that he could find.
with the eventual goal of starting his own architectural practice, BROCK first ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA WHERE HE RECEIVED A BUSINESS DEGREE FROM THE TERRY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS. He also completed EXTENSIVE COURSEWORK WITHIN THE LAMAR DODD SCHOOL OF ART and IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE WITHIN THE COLLEGE OF ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN.
wHILE A STUDENT AT UGA, bROCK ALSO COMPLETED HIS FIRST architectural INTERNSHIP WITH THE UGA CAMPUS ARCHITECTS OFFICE. While there, HE PARTICIPATED IN ADDITIONS TO SANFORD STADIUM AND SEVERAL urban design projects within the CAMPUS MASTER PLAN FOR THE UNIVERSITY.
BROCK then BEGAN GRADUATE STUDIES WITHIN THE COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE AT GEORGIA TECH DURING WHICH HE INTERNED WITH ROBERT AND COMPANY IN ATLANTA. NEAR THE END OF BROCK’S TIME AT GEORGIA TECH HE MET AN ARCHITECT NAMED JOHN TUTEN WHO HAD HIS OWN ARCHITECTURE FIRM BASED IN bRUNSWICK, GEORGIA SO BROCK DECIDED TO PURSUE ANOTHER LIFE LONG GOAL OF LIVING ON THE COAST AND MOVED from atlanta down TO THE GOLDEN ISLES ON THE GEORGIA coast.
WITH JOHN A. TUTEN & ASSOCIATES, ARCHITECTS AND with JAMES W. BUCKLEY AND ASSOCIATES, BROCK ROSE FROM AN ARCHITECT INTERN TO A PROJECT ARCHITECT LEADING THE DESIGN ON MULTIPLE LARGE COMMERCIAL PROJECTS INCLUDING THE NEW SAINT SIMONS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, THE NEW ALTAMA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN BRUNSWICK, GEORGIA AND OTHER LARGE SCHOOL PROJECTS ACROSS GEORGIA. bROCK ALSO WORKED FOR A TIME between large commercial projects working WITH DUNWODY BEELAND ARCHITECTS IN THEIR SAINT SIMONS Island OFFICE WORKING ON SEVERAL LARGE PROJECTS FOR THE SEA ISLAND COMPANY AT THE CLOISTER AND AT THE LODGE FACILITIES AS WELL AS on SEVERAL PRIVATE RESIDENCES ON SEA ISLAND, SAINT SIMONS Island, IN ATLANTA AND ACROSS THE SOUTHeast.
WITH OVER 15 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE INDUSTRY WITHIN 5 OF THE OLDEST AND MOST ESTABLISHED FIRMS IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA, BROCK DECIDED it was time TO BEGIN HIS OWN ARCHITECTURAL PRACTICE, NEW BROCK ARCHITECTS, with a commitment to keeping things new.
tHE FIRM IS OFF TO A GREAT START ALREADY WINNING TWO DESIGN AWARDS FROM THE GEORGIA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS.
bROCK’S BROAD RANGE OF ARCHITECTURAL experience and EXPERTISE WITH DESIGNING AND MANAGING large COMMERCIAL ANd HIGH END RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS DOWN TO SMALL BACKYARD ADDITIONS AND SMALL STOREFRONT BUILD OUTS ALLOWS He and his team TO PROVIDE DESIGN SOLUTIONS for A BROAD RANGE OF ClientS AND THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS.
RECENTLY, BROCK WAS SELECTED FROM A FIELD OF APPLICANTS FROM ACROSS THE STATE OF GEORGIA TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHRISTOPHER KELLEY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE AIA GEORGIA OFFICE in Atlanta.
BROCK is an Atlanta BRAVES FAN AND Loves his alma maters UGA AND GA TECH (yes, both). HE ENJOYS island BIKE RIDES WITH HIS WIFE AND TWO YOUNG CHILDREN and could spend all afternoon in a good art museum or gallery.
